Archives Alive is a volunteer-led 28-month project that is increasing public accessibility to Brighton & Hove’s heritage. It has utilised historical text, photographs, audio and print from QueenSpark’s own archive and a range of other sources. The thread throughout the entire programme has been to rediscover and/or repurpose archive material, and people of all ages and backgrounds have been engaged in sharing, and contributing to, our city’s heritage.

From late-2018 through to early-2020, QueenSpark volunteers were trained in historical, archive and photographic research at Brighton Museum and the Brighton Fishing Museum; book editing; book design; digitisation and accession and WordPress – this has resulted in four new books, newly-accessioned archive materials to The Keep; creative community workshops led by Collected Works; reminiscence sessions with elders led by Strike A Light; and in September 2020 will result in the launch of a series of online walks for residents and visitors to the city.

Archives Alive is supported by the National Heritage Lottery Fund, and we thank the players for that support.
